Charlie Act

Editorial cartoonist Mike Marland is back at InDepthNH.org where he’ll reboot Up on the Hill cartoon exclusively for InDepthNH.org. We are working on the placement for his political cartoons so watch for them in the future in the right-hand column of InDepthNH.org where you will click on the title card to see them in full.

Marland thought he had said it all when he stopped drawing editorial cartoons for his then-last New Hampshire client InDepthNH.org five years ago.

“There is so much going on that needs pushback right now that I can’t keep my cartoon mouth shut any longer,” Marland said.

Harlan and Gemma Whetstone are the main characters in Up On The Hill.

“They are wicked liberal, rural New Hampshire natives whose formative years were during the 60s and 70s. Harlan writes and illustrates comic books and graphic novels. Gemma is a painter. The Whetstones live in Mapleville, New Hampshire in an old New England farmhouse with their dog Pup and a cat named Mister.

“Other characters are Harlan’s Trumper brother Fred and Violet Finch, the Whetsone’s state rep.,” Marland said.
