As Minneapolis reportedly remains on edge after an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent fatally shot a woman Wednesday, there will be a candlelight vigil Friday, Jan. 9 at 5:30 p.m. in Concord in solidarity with Renee Nicole Good and Minnesota.
“We will gather to honor the life of Renee Good and to hold space for collective grief and solidarity with communities in Minnesota following her killing by ICE in Minneapolis earlier this week,” according to an email sent by Granite State Organizing.
“As people of faith, we are called to show up when life is lost and when our neighbors are afraid. This vigil is not a protest, but a sacred gathering, an opportunity to pray together and affirm the dignity of every human life,” the email said.
It’s called “Lighting the Night for Renee Good: A Candlelight Vigil in Solidarity with Minnesota.”
It will be held at the State House Arches in Concord.
“Please bring a candle if you are able. Clergy are invited to attend in vestments if you wish, and to stand as visible moral leaders alongside the community.”
According to The Guardian newspaper, The FBI has taken full control of the investigation into Good’s shooting.
“In a statement, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) said it was initially called upon to help investigate the shooting before federal officials ‘reversed course’ and said the case would be ‘solely led by the FBI.’ With its access to the case materials, witnesses and evidence revoked, the BCA said it had to “reluctantly” withdraw from the investigation.
“Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem denied that the BCA had been cut out of the investigation and said it was a matter of jurisdiction. ‘They have not been cut,’ she said. ‘They don’t have any jurisdiction in this investigation,’” The Guardian reported.
