CONCORD – A recount did not change the outcome of a special election for a House of Representative’s seat for Berlin.

Republican Marc Tremblay won over Corinne Cascadden, the Democrat in a vote of 878-873 respectively when a recount was held Monday at the New Hampshire Legislative Archives.

The special election was called to fill the post left vacant by the resignation of Republican Brian Valerino who was tapped by Gov. Kelly Ayotte and confirmed by the state’s Executive Council to be warden of the state prison in Berlin.

During last week’s special election, which coincided with Berlin municipal elections, Tremblay had won by 14 points. The recount narrowed that to just five votes.

Cascadden was the former state representative and former Superintendent of Berlin Schools.
In the first count, she received 864 votes but that went to 873. Tremblay originally received 878 and that did not change, according to the Secretary of State.

After the 2024 vote Republicans held 221 seats plus 177 in Democratic hands and 1 independent.
