NASHUA, N.H. — A shooting at Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua Saturday night was called a mass shooting event in which one man was killed and several others injured.
Nashua police posted on Twitter at about 9:20 p.m.: “Video surveillance has confirmed there was only one shooter and they are currently being detained. The scene is still an active investigation but there is no further danger to the public.”
At 8:30 p.m., Nashua police posted on Twitter: “The Nashua Department is currently investigating an incident at Sky Meadow Country Club involving multiple gunshot victims. There are two armed suspects that have fled the area. 1 suspect has been detained and the other suspect is still at large. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Nashua Police Department 603-594-3500,” but later said there was one suspect.
Nashua Alderman Melbourne Moran, who also formerly served as a state Representative, said he and his wife were on the deck of their home, which abuts the country club in the affluent neighborhood, Saturday evening when they saw a massive police response, including drones and a helicopter overhead.
“This is Alderman Moran from the City Of Nashua. My family is currently locked down during the mass shooting event, we are abutting the Sky Meadow property where the suspects are at large. My family and I urge a peaceful surrender of the suspects to the Nashua PD and we are praying for the safety of our children and all the victims of this horrible event,” Moran said in an earlier email.
Nashua police said the phone was ringing off the hook and the officer who answered said he couldn’t confirm anything at about 9:10 p.m.
Moran said he heard from a police officer from a unit responding to help Nashua police that there was a wedding at the country club, but the shooting was unrelated to it and the shooting occurred in the restaurant.
“We are not used to this type of violence,” Moran said.
He said he also heard a number of people were injured in the rush to leave the country club during the “mad rush” to get out of there.
“We really need to tone down the rhetoric,” Moran said, adding he wasn’t suggesting the incident was political. “Gun violence has gotten out of control,” Moran said.
