On Friday, the New Hampshire Insurance Department confirmed the resolution of the contractual dispute between St. Joseph Hospital in Nashua and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, New Hampshire’s largest health insurance carrier.

The department said it is unable to provide specific details of the agreement and a spokesmen for St. Joseph’s Hospital didn’t respond to requests for more information.

A spokesman for Anthem said: “We’re pleased to have reached an agreement with St. Joseph Hospital that provides Anthem members with continued access to care at St. Joseph Hospital and its outpatient care centers and physician offices in southern New Hampshire. Members with questions can call the number on the back of their Anthem ID card.

“Due to the confidentiality of the agreement I cannot share specifics.”

Early this month, the hospital alerted patients that as of Jan. 1, 2025, they were no longer part of Anthem’s insurance network because of the dispute affecting between 8,000 and 10,000 patients.

Patients seeking more information regarding the terms of the agreement are encouraged to contact St. Joseph Hospital or Anthem directly, according to the Insurance Department.

Consumers with questions or concerns about their insurance coverage can contact the NHID Consumer Services Division at 603-271-2261 or visit https://insurance.nh.gov for assistance.

Insurance Commissioner DJ Bettencourt and senior NHID officials met with leadership from both St. Joseph Hospital and Anthem over the past three weeks.

“This resolution marks a significant victory for the patients of St. Joseph Hospital and the customers of Anthem,” said Insurance Commissioner DJ Bettencourt. “This outcome underscores the commitment of both parties to prioritize the needs of the community…”
