The Libertarian Party of New Hampshire posted its official position on “political assassinations” Monday after getting heat from Sunday’s Twitter/X post that said “Anyone who murders Kamala Harris would be an American hero.”

At about 2 p.m. Monday the Libertarian Party of New Hampshire’s official Twitter/X account posted, “The media will take a post from us more seriously than actual assassination attempts. Because they want you dead, but will settle for your submission. We will never submit.”

Also on Monday, Michael Garrity, spokesman for the Attorney General’s Office, said in an email: “State law enforcement is aware of the posts and is in communication with our federal partners.”

Boston Globe reporter Steven Porter tweeted Monday that a spokesperson for the US Secret Service confirmed the agency was aware of the LPNH tweet regarding VP Harris. “He declined to comment but noted the agency ‘investigates all threats related to our protectees,’” Porter tweeted.

Ray Buckley, chairman of the New Hampshire Democratic party tweeted: “The Libertarian Party of NH encouraging the assassination of Vice President Harris must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. Political violence is never acceptable, and their statement was disgusting, dangerous and wrong.”

Chris Ager, chairman of the state Republican Party, tweeted: “Comments by the Libertarian Party of NH suggesting the assassination of political figures, including VP Harris, are condemned in the strongest possible terms. There is no room for this type of dialogue. PERIOD.”

The Libertarian Party of New Hampshire posted “Official Statement from The Libertarian Party of New Hampshire on Political Assassinations.”

We would never advocate for the assassination of a tyrannical President. That’s illegal. We were merely acknowledging how some members would react to one. These feelings are no different than how many leftists reacted and continue to react to assassination attempts on Donald Trump.

“Libertarians are not pacifists. We are not’ ‘non-violent’. Libertarians are against the initiation of force, but threats to property rights and self-determination exist everywhere. It is morally correct to use violence to stop aggression. The concept of ‘political violence’ is incoherent. Libertarians believe acts are either consensual or non-consensual, aggression or non-aggression. Politicians and state actors do not have extra rights.”

“… We do not speak for the NHGOP, the NHLA, the Free State Project, or any elected Democrat or Republican. We are the vanguard of the Free State movement, willing to do what must be done. The fact that you can behave as LPNH does is part of what makes New Hampshire special. You can be as radically libertarian as you want here. You can be your uninhibited libertarian self and still have lots of friends and an active social life,” the statement said.
