NEWBURY – It’s been a pretty wet and relatively cool week for the 91st Annual Craftsmen’s Fair which continues through Sunday, but most artists say that business has been pretty strong during the week and they have many beautiful items yet to be displayed.
For some artists and craftsmen, the annual event at the base of the ski area Mount Sunapee State Park, represents up to 30 percent of their annual revenue.
Online general admission is $18 but it will cost $20 at the gate.
The Fair is open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. rain or shine.
There are more than 300 juried craftsmen and guests of the League of New Hampshire Craftsmen who are displaying jewelry, pottery, weaving, woodwork, sculpture and paintings.
The Annual Craftsmen’s Fair began in 1933 and runs for nine days each year.
The exhibitions attract over 20,000 visitors annually.
Sarah Stewart, commissioner of the state Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, which leases the ski area to Vail Resorts, noted that this is the 60th anniversary of the fair being on the property.
She provided Gov. Chris Sununu and the five-member Executive Council commemorative pins of the occasion at its meeting Wednesday in Derry and urged the council and department heads in attendance at the meeting to go to the fair.
Sununu annually sounds the horn for the start of the fair.
