A Northwood man has been indicted in the early morning crash last Thanksgiving that killed a young Barrington woman and injured five others, including the driver who allegedly crashed and rolled his 2018 Porsche Macan at the Portsmouth Traffic Circle while drunk.
A Rockingham County grand jury indicted driver Tyler Troy, 23, for negligent homicide-DUI and negligent homicide in the death of Drew Ceppetelli, 21, of Barrington.
Ceppetelli was just weeks away from graduating from Salve Regina University with a bachelor’s degree in healthcare administration and had planned to return there to get her master’s degree. She was well-known for playing softball, volleyball and was a gymnast, according to her obituary.
She attended school in Barrington and graduated from Coe Brown Northwood Academy in 2019.
“Drew was a born leader whose smile lit up every room she entered. She was kind, hilarious, beautiful, had a positive attitude and energy and lived her life to the fullest,” her obituary stated.
Troy was also charged with two counts of second-degree assault, two counts of aggravated DWI and two counts of reckless conduct in connection with the crash. According to the indictments, which were announced Monday, Troy was driving faster than 30 miles an hour over the speed limit.
Troy will be arraigned Aug. 18 in Rockingham County Superior Court in Brentwood.
The Portsmouth Gas Light Co.’s liquor license was suspended for allegedly serving Troy before the crash, but it was regranted in Rockingham County Superior Court, E.J. Powers, spokesman for the New Hampshire Liquor Commission told InDepthNH.org last December.
“An immediate suspension (Dec. 10) was issued to the Gaslight by the NHLC Division of Enforcement and Licensing. The license was regranted by Rockingham Superior Court. A suspension hearing was scheduled for December 23, (2022) but was continued at the request of the licensee,” Powers said in an email.
Powers didn’t say how long the suspension was in effect when it was regranted. But he did say the establishment could continue to serve alcohol in the meantime.
Powers didn’t immediately respond to questions about the status of the Gas Light’s liquor license Monday.
According to a NHLC document, the pizza pub and nightclub allowed “Tyler Troy, DOB: 07/15/2000, who was visibly intoxicated, to consume an alcoholic beverage, which resulted in a fatal motor vehicle crash. Nov. 24 at 12:31 a.m.”
A message left at the Gas Light seeking comment Monday wasn’t immediately returned.
