KEENE – A trained tornado spotter reported seeing a rapidly rotating funnel cloud reaching the ground that may have been a tornado in the Keene area just before 3 p.m. Thursday, according to Sarah Thunberg, a National Weather Service meteorologist.
Thunberg said it can’t be confirmed until meteorologists visit the Keene/Dublin area where trees are reported down across Route 101, which will likely happen Friday.
The tornado report came in at the same time there was a tornado warning in the area during thunder storms. she said.
“With all of that we were confident enough to send out a report of a preliminary tornado in Keene but we cannot confirm until we go there to figure whether it was a tornado or just outflow wind gusts from the thunder storm.
“We’ve heard there are many many trees down across Route 101 in Keene and Dublin,” Thunberg said.
She said the thunderstorms were expected to be done in the next few hours and by midnight taper off and clear.
“We do have a heat advisory out for most of New Hampshire south of the mountains” for Friday, she said.
