LACONIA – Citizens for Belknap, the bipartisan citizens political action group, released the online version of its voter’s guide on Tuesday for the November 8th general election. The guide can be found on the group’s website at CitizensforBelknap.org/votersguide.

Al Posnack, chairman of the group, said the new Voter’s Guide includes recommendations on Republican, Democratic and independent candidates, and focuses largely on whether candidates will be reasonable, responsible stewards for Belknap County.

“We look at voting records, public statements, and surveys, and support candidates whom we think will serve the citizens, and protect our county’s institutions and assets,” said Posnack.  Our recommended candidates may differ on how that gets done, but they all agree on providing sensible county governance.  Our mission is to educate voters so they can make an informed decision,”  he said.

The recommendations on the Voter’s Guide are made by the Citizens for Belknap Steering committee, composed of Republicans, Democrats and independent members. Research, discussions and decisions happen over multiple meetings before a consensus is reached.

Included in the online version are short narratives about the candidate, candidate statements, and links to interviews or stories about the candidates.  “Just voting for a person with an “R” or a “D” after their name is how fringe candidates get elected,” said Brian Beihl, an organizer for the group.  “That’s how we got chaos at Gunstock, and why our nursing home and corrections department don’t have the budget to hire adequate staff,” he said.   In addition to information on the candidates, the online guide also provides links to town voter registration information, your town’s sample ballot, and polling locations and hours.

A more stripped-down version of the Voter’s Guide will be available from volunteers stationed just outside most polling locations.
