I am announcing my candidacy for Representative of Strafford County, District 4.
As representative for Strafford 4, I will strive towards a common-sense approach to governing. I believe in bringing respect and common sense back to a government that has been too starkly divided by ideological rigidity for too long. NH deserves better and I want to serve my constituents with the type of sound, professional and humanistic governance that they deserve.
I believe that a well-managed progressive model of governance will serve the people well. We are building the world our children will inherit.
The three pillars that my platform rests on are education, democracy, and a focus on local issues.
Education is the most important tool to ensure a better future. The right of all students to an adequate public education is under constant attack by budget cuts and misguided republican voucher programs. I will work for all NH students and make sure the state is doing everything in its power to fairly provide for NH’s students.
In recent years we have seen an alarming increase in attacks on our most basic of rights as American citizens- the right to vote. Examples include efforts to deny our student residents their access to the polls, widespread gerrymandering and rescinding the excuse free absentee ballot. I will initiate efforts to install mail in voting and excuse free absentee voting that will make it easier to vote. We can help turn the tide on poor voter turnout by making it easier for our busy citizens to vote. I will also investigate methods to increase voter knowledge of the candidates.
This will help voters know who are free state candidates and others with a destructive agenda. Local issues have big impacts, and I will work to provide support for my district at the state level. Barrington and Strafford are both areas of immense ecological importance (e.g.SATWaSR watershed), and the state needs to protect and provide for the future by aggressive protection of water bodies and reservoirs.
I have served as your representative before, and I can’t wait to serve the Strafford County residents where I have lived for 43 years. I am passionate about giving back to a community that has given me so much. We can only do better when we come together, and that is the kind of leadership I seek to provide for Strafford District 4 at the State House.
