Keeping up with Northeastern University professor, author, blogger and podcaster Dan Kennedy isn’t easy, but it’s definitely worth doing if you want to figure out what’s happening in the world of news today.
On Tuesday night, Kennedy shared his thoughts on the crisis in journalism and what some news outlets are working on as solutions on a webinar for InDepthNH.org. Please watch here.
Dan talked about how we got into this mess and how we are going to get out of it, naming the players who brought it on and those working hard on solutions.
Dan’s blog Media Nation is a must as is his podcast What Works.
I’m hooked on both. Thanks Dan for the work you are doing to save the news.
InDepthNH.org is working on solutions, too. We have two more free Zoom/YouTube sessions with experts Jason Pramas, executive editor of DigBoston, and Anne Galloway, founder of VTDigger.
On April 12, Jason Pramas will speak via Zoom/YouTube from 6 to 7 p.m.

Jason is the executive editor and associate publisher of the alternative newsweekly DigBoston, Boston’s always witty and never dull guide to nightlife, opinion and events. He is also executive director of the Boston Institute for Nonprofit Journalism. He co-founded the institute with Chris Faraone in 2015.
He considers himself a socialist, and longtime labor and community activist. Jason was the lead organizer of the Boston Social Forum in 2004 and is noted for curating the 2014-2015 Boston Strong? art show that criticized the popular Boston Strong slogan.
He holds his Bachelor of Arts degree in Community Media and Technology for the University of Massachusetts Boston and an MFA in Visual Arts from The Art Institute of Boston.
Anne Galloway
On April 19 from 6 to 7 p.m., Anne Galloway, founder of VTDigger will tell us how she did it, how she went from being laid off to building a $2 million a year nonprofit news organization with 28 employees when many newspapers were failing.

Anne was a finalist for the Ancil Payne Award for Ethics, the Al Neuharth Innovation in Investigative Journalism Award and the Investigative Reporters and Editors Freedom of Information Act Award for her investigation into allegations of foreign investor fraud at Jay Peak Resort.
She was persistent in her intrepid series of articles on former Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin and his relationship with Jay Peak ski area owner Ariel Quiros, a Miami-based developer. Through unsealed records and plain old gumshoe reporting, Anne was able to uncover gifts, campaign contributions and apartment stays benefitting Shumlin. The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission investigated the Northeast Kingdom economic development projects the two men had spent years promoting. In April 2016, the SEC filed federal fraud charges against Quiros and his partners, alleging they had orchestrated a massive, “Ponzi-like scheme” involving eight development projects in Vermont. Quiros would eventually plead guilty to criminal fraud and money laundering charges.
