Volinsky also calls on Education Commissioner Frank Edelblut to develop and distribute a comprehensive plan for school districts to respond to an outbreak

Concord, N.H.–On Wednesday, Andru Volinsky, a Democratic candidate for governor, issued the following statement:

“Now that the coronavirus has been found at one of our state’s most vital health centers at Dartmouth-Hitchcock, this public health crisis must take top priority to ensure the livelihoods of Granite Staters.

“Today, I call on Governor Sununu to follow Governor Cuomo’s lead in directing Granite State health insurers to waive fees related to coronavirus testing, to ensure that Granite Staters on Medicaid have no copay for testing, and to provide state aid to make testing free for people without insurance. We have an opportunity to contain the coronavirus here in New Hampshire before it spreads, and one of the first and best steps we can take is to waive fees for testing. Cost should not be a barrier to any Granite Stater who needs to be tested. As governor, I would not hesitate to waive fees related to coronavirus testing.

I also call on Education Commissioner Frank Edelblut to develop and distribute a comprehensive plan for school districts to respond to a Covid-19 outbreak, including adequate sanitizing of surfaces, prescribed handwashing breaks, preparation of lesson plans in the case of a school closing, and voluntary quarantines where appropriate.”

Andru Volinsky is serving his second term on the Executive Council, New Hampshire’s board of directors. He is running for Governor in 2020. Andru grew up in a town reminiscent of New Hampshire’s declining mill towns with struggling schools. His father was a trade union member who worked as a mechanic and maintenance man. Andru earned a scholarship and worked as a carpenter and in a factory. He is the only one in his family to graduate college. Andru was the lead lawyer in the 1997 Claremont school funding case, which ruled that every child deserves an adequately state-funded public education. He is the only candidate for governor who has refused corporate PAC and LLC money from day one of his campaign, and who is opposed to new fossil fuel infrastructure like the Granite Bridge Pipeline.
