CONCORD, NH – NHGOP Chairman Stephen Stepanek released the following statement regarding Senator Shaheen’s call for out-of-state Presidential candidates to comment on New Hampshire’s voter laws:

“New Hampshire Senator Jeanne Shaheen is gleefully calling for out-of-state Democrat candidates for President to push for voting rights for out-of-state voters here in New Hampshire. While it’s unsurprising that Senator Shaheen is trying to rally the support of Washington Liberals ahead of her tough re-election, Governor Sununu remains committed to standing with the majority of Granite Staters who support the common-sense voter integrity laws he signed last year.”

“Before these Democrats choose to comment on New Hampshire’s voting laws, they would be wise to remember the voting laws in their own states. It’s clear when looking at voter residency laws and New Hampshire’s inclusion of same-day registration that New Hampshire is still one of the easiest states to register and vote in.”

“Requiring those who vote in New Hampshire to be residents of New Hampshire is not a burden to the polls as Senator Shaheen describes; it is common sense. Let’s be clear: every New Hampshire resident will be able to vote next year.”

“These laws merely brought New Hampshire’s voting laws in line with all other 49 states, and these scare tactics from out-of-state Democrats will not change that. We already know that Senator Shaheen will be extremely reliant on out-of-state contributions during her 2020 election, but it’s good that she makes it clear – she’s also looking to be dependent on out-of-state voters as well.”
