(Manchester, NH) — U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, D-NH, a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, released the following statement in reaction to the recent reports that U.S. intelligence officials believe Russia interfered in the November election to help President-elect Donald Trump.

“The revelations contained in recent articles raise essential questions about Russia’s interference in our electoral process and how best to respond,” said Shaheen.

“I am pleased President Obama has ordered a full review of Russia’s actions and the lessons that can be learned for the United States going forward. After this review concludes, I urge the Administration to provide all relevant information to Congress. President-elect Trump should welcome such a review, rather than continue to smear the judgment and professionalism of the intelligence professionals who work every day to keep Americans safe at home and abroad.

Shaheen continued, “For those of us in Congress, the only appropriate response is to come together in a bipartisan fashion to investigate Russia’s interference and craft an appropriate response, and I am heartened that such an approach has received some bipartisan support.  Ensuring the integrity of the U.S. electoral system must be a top priority for the new Congress.  It certainly will be for me.”
