Governor Hassan Directs Flags to Half-Staff in Honor of Dallas Police Officers

CONCORD – Governor Maggie Hassan today directed flags lowered to half-staff in honor of the Dallas police officers who lost their lives protecting the rights of their fellow citizens to peacefully protest.

Governor Hassan directed that flags be flown at half-staff until sundown on Monday.

Earlier this morning, Governor Hassan issued the following statement:

“Tom and I join all Granite Staters in mourning the brave members of law enforcement who lost their lives in Dallas protecting the rights of their fellow citizens to peacefully protest.  We pray for the full and swift recovery of those wounded, and we stand with the family and friends of all these officers.  We must not rest until the perpetrators of this ambush are brought to justice.

“In the aftermath of last night’s shooting, we also want the extraordinary members of New Hampshire’s law enforcement community to know how grateful we are for their service and professionalism – and the sacrifices their families make – each and every day. You face danger every single day to keep our families and our communities safe, and we are profoundly grateful.

“All Americans need to stand together on this terrible morning and make sure we continue to do so each and every morning.  Pictures before the shootings showed police officers and protesters in Dallas – and in cities across the country – working peacefully and respectfully together. It was a reminder of the professionalism, passion and fundamental goodwill of our law enforcement officers and our citizens.

“As we mourn the death of these officers and grapple with these horrific events, we must re-commit ourselves to being there for the people of Dallas, to being there for each other, and to building bridges of respect and compassion in every community that will help keep us all safe.”

“While words are of little comfort during this horrific tragedy, Joe and I are praying for the families and loved ones of the fallen officers and those injured in Dallas. Our law enforcement officers put their lives on the line every single day to keep us safe and their selfless service is often unnoticed and unappreciated. We owe them so much, and when officers fall in the line of duty, we know we can never repay that sacrifice.”
