Rep. Annie Kuster, D-NH

(Washington, DC) – Congresswoman Annie Kuster (NH-02) released the following statement on reports that as many as 30,000 Marines are being investigated as part of their involvement in distributing and commenting on obscene photos of female Marines:

“I’m deeply disturbed by reports that as many as 30,000 Marines were involved in the distribution of obscene photos of active-duty and veteran Marines and in widespread lewd behavior online. This constitutes sexual harassment and is not only unacceptable but an unlawful act per Article 120 of the uniform code of military justice.

“The United States Marine Corps is one of the greatest military forces in the world and these actions undermine that excellence which we have come to expect. This behavior is more than just reprehensible, it endangers female Marines with blackmail and jeopardizes our national security. I’m calling for a full review of this matter to determine the necessary steps moving forward.”
