Just one day before the election, President Barack Obama is scheduled to appear at the Whittemore Center Arena at the University of New Hampshire at 3 p.m.
After endorsing Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton back in early June, President Obama has campaigned often for the former Secretary of State. Recently, Obama has appeared on campuses all over the nation hoping to persuade young voters.
Doors open at 12:30 p.m., and the event is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m., although that hasn’t stopped voters and community members from piling up outside of the arena on this frigid Monday morning.
“If you look at the map, out of 11 swing states, President Obama is coming here,” UNH Political Science student Joe Green said. “This is important for us.”
Polls suggest that Clinton is ahead in the key battleground state of New Hampshire, which leads many to believe this appearance plays a larger role than just campaigning for the presidential election.
“Obama is such a great campaign tool,” UNH political science student Austin Sullivan said. “He’s the most powerful man in the world.”
The theme of this appearance, much like all of President Obama’s appearances, is clear: Get out and vote.
“If you’re a voter, vote with conscience and vote down the ballot,” Sullivan said. “Your vote means a lot here in New Hampshire.”
