State leaders are to receive more than 1,000 petition signatures from citizens in favor of strengthening and continuing the Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative, or RGGI program. All six New England states and three others are working in the coalition with a goal of reducing carbon from power plants.
Now in its four-year review, the groups are hoping the states will strengthen the program aimed ultimately at providing more energy efficient and clean electricity. The New Hampshire chapter of the Sierra Club is one of those groups. Roger Wood spoke to Chapter Director Catherine Corkery about the petition drive and the goal of the Reggi program.
The Legislature is responsible for renewing New Hampshire’s participation in the program. Joining the Sierra Club are several other groups, including Environment New Hampshire, Union of Concerned Scientists, National Wildlife Federation, Mom’s Clean Air Force and the League of Conservation Voters.
