Shaheen Statement on Supreme Court Ruling in Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt

**Shaheen: We cannot play politics with women’s health and, time and again, the Court has made this clear.**

(Washington, D.C.) U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH) issued the following statement in reaction to the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt, a case addressing access to abortion services and targeted regulation of abortion providers in Texas. Senator Shaheen signed an Amicus Brief to the Court in support of Whole Woman’s Health, alongside more than 25 Senators and 120 Members of the House of Representatives.

“A woman’s ability to make her own decisions about her health, family and future is a Constitutional right in America and I am happy to see the Supreme Court reaffirm it,” said Senator Shaheen. “This is an important victory for women across the country, not just in Texas. We cannot play politics with women’s health and, time and again, the Court has made this clear. Today, the Supreme Court sent a signal to state legislatures that have made it their duty to subversively dismantle a woman’s right to choose – targeting healthcare providers and creating barriers to access care is fundamentally unconstitutional.”
