With over 500 lawn signs placed across the county urging voters to reject Free Staters and Libertarian “extremists” from the House of Representatives and county leadership, members of Citizens for Belknap were expressing gratitude to voters for unseating a number of Republican legislators in the state primary Tuesday.
Free Stater state Rep. Mike Sylvia, R-Belmont, stepped down as chairman of the Belknap County Delegation Thursday, claiming that an emergency meeting to deal with a crisis at Gunstock was illegal because he did not call for it.
In an effort to move forward from a political battle that temporarily closed the Gunstock Recreation Area last month, the Gunstock Area Commission voted 3-0 Monday to pay a law firm almost $45,000.
GILFORD – The Gunstock Area Commission voted Sunday to return all staff who resigned July 20 at least for the upcoming Soul Fest and members of the Belknap County Delegation said they have the votes to terminate Dr. David Strang as a proviso for their return as early as Monday.
Feeling the political heat from constituents in the Lakes Region, legislators are eager to get Belknap County-owned Gunstock Mountain recreation area back in operation saying it is costing jobs, local business revenue, and may adversely impact county taxes.
GILFORD – Republican candidate for governor Karen Testerman has called for an outside investigation of a Sept. 18, 2020 check for $500 to the campaign of Gov. Chris Sununu which was signed by Tom Day, who was then Gunstock’s general manager. The check was written on a Gunstock Area Commission account.
Gov. Chris Sununu called for the ouster of two members of the Gunstock Area Commission as the quickest way to restore operations at the now mostly closed Belknap County-owned recreation facility.
The chair of the Belknap County Delegation said no meeting is scheduled for the replacement of Gunstock Area Commissioner Gary Kiedaisch who resigned on July 20, but Rep. Mike Sylvia, R-Belmont, said he expects to convene a meeting “no sooner than mid-September” to appoint a new commissioner.
