The Gunstock Area Commission approved a contract to hire an attorney Wednesday night in the event that a judge includes the commission in a suit filed by former Commissioner David Strang against the current chair Douglas Lambert.
In an effort to move forward from a political battle that temporarily closed the Gunstock Recreation Area last month, the Gunstock Area Commission voted 3-0 Monday to pay a law firm almost $45,000.

GILFORD – The Gunstock Area Commission voted Sunday to return all staff who resigned July 20 at least for the upcoming Soul Fest and members of the Belknap County Delegation said they have the votes to terminate Dr. David Strang as a proviso for their return as early as Monday.
The three-day Christian music festival Soul Fest will go on as scheduled despite the recent turmoil within the Gunstock Mountain Resort operations and political community.
Amidst calls for their resignations — including from other commissioners — the chair and vice-chair of the Gunstock Area Commission finally walked of what was to be a special non-public session to address the issues raised by a mass walkout of the senior management team that had led to the closure of the county-owned recreational area.
The chair of the Belknap County Delegation said no meeting is scheduled for the replacement of Gunstock Area Commissioner Gary Kiedaisch who resigned on July 20, but Rep. Mike Sylvia, R-Belmont, said he expects to convene a meeting “no sooner than mid-September” to appoint a new commissioner.
Gov. Chris Sununu has offered positions in the state’s Parks Department and Cannon Mountain to the members of Gunstock Mountain Resort’s management team who resigned en masse on July 20.
One month after employees of the Gunstock Mountain Resort complained of disrespect by the governing Gunstock Area Commission, a new seating plan that placed senior management in the audience at the Belknap County Complex was seen as a further insult, leading to the resignation of the entire management team.
