AG: Concord Couple Died of Gunshot Wounds, Police Seek Public’s Help in Investigation

Stephen Reid, age 67, right, and Djeswende Reid, age 66, were murdered in April 2022 while walking on a nature path in Concord.

Attorney General John M. Formella and Concord Chief of Police Bradley Osgood announce that autopsies have been conducted today on the bodies of Stephen Reid, age 67, and Djeswende Reid, age 66. 

Their bodies were discovered in the early evening of April 21, 2022, in the area of the Broken Ground Trails, which are off of Portsmouth Street in Concord.  In particular, the Reids’ bodies were recovered from a wooded area in close proximity to the Marsh Loop Trail.

The autopsies were conducted by Deputy Chief Medical Examiner Mitchell Weinberg.  Dr. Weinberg has determined that the cause of Stephen Reid’s death was multiple gunshot wounds, and that the manner of his death was homicide.  Dr. Weinberg determined that the cause of Djeswende Reid’s death was multiple gunshot wounds, and that the manner of her death was homicide.

The investigation to date has revealed that the Reids left their residence in the Alton Woods apartment complex at approximately 2:22 p.m. on the afternoon of Monday, April 18, 2022, and went for a walk that led them to the area of the Broken Ground Trails.  Family and friends did not see or hear from them after that. 

The Concord Police are seeking the public’s assistance with the investigation.  Anyone who saw the Reids on Monday, April 18, 2022, or who has any information related to their disappearance and deaths are asked to contact the Concord Police Department.  In addition, anyone in the areas where the Reids walked who has a home or business security or video surveillance system is asked to review the recordings to determine if the Reids were captured on video.  Attached is a photograph of Stephen and Djeswende Reid.

The investigation is ongoing and additional information will be released as it becomes available, while protecting the integrity of the investigation. 

In the meantime, residents of the area are encouraged to be vigilant and take normal precautions as they go about their daily lives.  Any suspicious behavior or activity encountered should be reported to the Concord Police Department.
