AG Seeks ‘Dangerous’ Man as Person of Interest in Laconia Homicide on Friday

Editor’s note: At 12:57 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, the Department of Safety emailed the following news release and two photos to the news media of a man described as a person of interest in the investigation into the death of Wilfred Guzman in Laconia on Friday. The previous news releases issued are posted below. According to Hassan Sapry’s Facebook page, he is from Baghdad, Iraq, lives in Laconia and went to Laconia High School. The cause of Wilfred Guzman’s death was blunt and sharp force injury to the head, and the manner of death was homicide, according to the attorney general.

Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald, New Hampshire State Police Colonel Christopher J. Wagner, and Laconia Police Chief Matthew Canfield announce that investigators are seeking to speak with Hassan Sapry, age 21 of Laconia, a person of interest in the investigation into the death of Wilfred Guzman.

Mr. Sapry was last seen in the area of Pleasant Street in Laconia on Tuesday afternoon and is believed to be on foot. Mr. Sapry is considered to be dangerous and should not be approached.

6:02 p.m. April 20 AG news release: Concord, NH — Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald, New Hampshire State Police Colonel Christopher J. Wagner, and Laconia Police Chief Matthew Canfield announce that an autopsy was conducted on Wilfred Guzman, Sr. (age 57), who was discovered deceased inside his residence in Laconia, New Hampshire on April 19, 2019.

Dr. Christine James of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has determined that the cause of Mr. Guzman’s death was blunt and sharp force injury to the head, and the manner of death was homicide.

The investigation into the circumstances of Mr. Guzman’s death remains active and ongoing.  Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Sergeant Matthew Amatucci of the New Hampshire State Police at (603) 223-4381.
