The Kinder-Morgan Northeast Energy Direct Project is apparently dead in the water. And opponents of the proposed project are happy about that.
Little information has been released by the third-largest energy company in North America. The company did say that the project involving a 188-mile pipeline through New York into New England including New Hampshire was indefinitely postponed. It cited a lack of signed contracts with gas distributors in the region.
Roger Wood spoke to opponents of the project, including Joel Wool, of the non-profit Clearwater.org group in Boston. New Hampshire’s Republican Sen. Kelly Ayotte also applauded the decision, stating, “I was the first statewide elected official to oppose the pipeline moving forward because of the many unanswered questions and concerns raised by New Hampshire residents who would have been affected by this project, so I am pleased by today’s announcement.”
Ayotte advocated repeatedly for more transparency on the project in hearings and letters to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.
