U.S. Rep. Dean Phillips, D-Minn., a self-described dark horse presidential candidate, was endorsed Tuesday by former Democratic New Hampshire House Speaker Steve Shurtleff of Penacook.
On the bipartisan makeup of the Committees this term, Speaker Packard said, “I would like to thank the following Members who accepted the additional role of Chair or Vice Chair on our House Standing Committees.”
“Over the past month, the public has received inconsistent figures from the Governor’s office regarding the remaining CARES act funds ranging from $1 million, to $30 million, and in the latest report, nearly $200 million that remains unspent,” according to a joint Democratic statement.
There are things we can accomplish as a minority. If the caucus holds together, and if everyone shows up to vote, we need only 14 Republican votes to prevail.
Democratic and Republican House leaders met Monday without a resolution that would allow the House and Legislature to continue their work this session.
The business tax reductions have never been popular with Democrats and the business community did not ask for the last round of cuts but was certainly not opposed to lower tax bills.
“On first blush, I can’t approve that,” House Speaker Steve Shurtleff said.
