Gov. Chris Sununu announced that more than 5,000 Main Street businesses will get an average grant of $60,000 in federal COVID-19 relief funds, a new fund will be created for the self-employed and he called for a 45-day study of police practices.
Scott Traudt thought he had a leg up getting confidential Lebanon police records that he believes contain evidence of misconduct after the state Supreme Court recently overturned two cases involving a 1993 ruling that had seriously limited public access to such records until then.
Three months to the day since the state’s first case of COVID-19 was announced, Gov. Chris Sununu said on Wednesday we have likely already hit bottom and using charts provided an optimistic update on the direction of the pandemic.
The two cases were filed in the state Supreme Court by the New Hampshire Union Leader and Seacoast Newspapers after they were denied access to documents involving alleged police misconduct in separate public records cases under the internal personnel practices exemption of RSA 91a, the state’s right-to-know law.
Health and Human Services Commissioner Lori Shibinette briefed the council on COVID-19 preparedness.
The list has been controversial because the names of the police officers are withheld from the public.
The New Hampshire Center for Public Interest Journalism’s stories about the infamous “Laurie List” of dishonest police are listed under the Criminal Justice category in the compilation that includes stories from 230 members of the Institute for Nonprofit News.
Even in a generally pro-police state like New Hampshire, some say the shootings are justified far too often and suggest it’s time to empanel a civilian review board to examine them.
