CONCORD – The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced that Planned Parenthood of Northern New England in New Hampshire will receive $500,000 through a Title X Dire Need Grant.

These awards are given to address increased need for family planning services where restrictive laws and policies have impacted reproductive health access.

Most New Hampshire family planning providers, including PPNNE, have not received federal Title X family planning funds since 2019 due to the Trump administration’s gag rule. The Biden administration and New Hampshire’s federal delegation have worked to reverse this policy, but full federal funding will not return to the states until spring of 2022 at the earliest.

Kayla Montgomery, vice president of public affairs at Planned Parenthood of Northern New England said:

“This Dire Need federal funding will help mitigate the damage of the New Hampshire Executive Council’s recent dismantling of the New Hampshire Family Planning Program.

Nearly 10,000 Granite Staters rely on PPNNE for high quality, affordable health care and this funding will help ensure they can continue to get the care they need from their trusted providers at PPNNE. While this relief is critically important, it does not make the entire family planning program whole. Independent providers also provide critical care and have been denied nearly $1 million by New Hampshire.

While the federal government shouldn’t have to step in to reduce harm that the majority of the Executive Council have caused, we are grateful to Senator Shaheen, Senator Hassan, Congresswoman Kuster, and Congressman Pappas for advocating for Granite Staters and their health care.”

Planned Parenthood of Northern New England has five health centers in New Hampshire and treated nearly 10,000 patients in 2020. In November, PPNNE was named a 2021 Guardian of Excellence Award® winner by Press Ganey, the national leader in health care consumer and workforce engagement. Press Ganey recognizes PPNNE as a top-performing health care organization, achieving the 95th percentile or above for performance in patient experience, out of more than 20,000 medical practices.

Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE) is the largest provider of reproductive and sexual health care for women, men and teens across the State of New Hampshire.
