By NANCY WEST, InDepthNH.org

When I started the New Hampshire Center for Public Interest Journalism almost six years ago, I knew we were needed because 60 percent of news jobs had disappeared since 2000. I had no idea that layoffs and buyouts at legacy newspapers would continue, including just recently with three more veteran journalists at the Portsmouth Herald accepting buyouts.

At a time when we need more unbiased news, there is less money to pay to report and deliver it. Times are tough in so many sectors, but we will do our best to help keep you informed at InDepthNH.org. We promise we will never put up a paywall, will always hold the powerful accountable and report only for you. Our nonprofit news is free to all.

Can you help us reach the $30,000 mark by Dec. 31? Please, let’s try. Or send check to NH Center for Public Interest Journalism, 38 Edgewater Drive, Barrington, NH 03825. Thanks, Nancy West

You can donate here.

We need you to make sure that keeps happening. We are 5 bucks away from raising $20,000 – all from you. Our 2021 sustainable budget is $200,000 so raising 10 percent already is a great omen, plus more than half of that will be doubled by NewsMatch. We are looking for ways to expand our income and will soon launch an underwriting program where businesses can showcase their support on our site. Your ideas welcomed. nancywestnews@gmail.com
