COLEBROOK, N.H. — As the winter months drag on cabin fever sets in. Fortunately, the cure lies in the North Country with an array of events for the whole family. Start your new year with some new destinations and GoNorth!
A highlight of any North Country winter is the GoNorth Snofest. Marking the region’s winter culture and epic snowmobiling season, Snofest features a chance to test drive brand-new snowmobile models, participate in family-friendly activities, check out our human-powered sports and more!
The free event is from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Mar. 6 – 7 at three amazing locations: The Lodges at Coleman State Park, Coleman State Park and Swift Dimond Riders Club House. Kids can enjoy ice skating or snowshoeing, while adults can test 2021 snowmobile models from Arctic Cat, Polaris and Ski-Doo with a $10 demo pass.
• Coleman State Park will host the motorized segment of the event. Snowmobile manufacturers will have 2021 models on display.
• The Swift Diamond Riders will host a groomer rodeo, sponsored by Kevin Lassonde Construction, at their clubhouse. The groomer rodeo will allow club groomer operators, trail masters, members and visitors to check out the newest grooming equipment that is available.
• The Coleman Lodges property will host the new Spirits of the North Country beer and wine tasting event along with the human-powered activities and events. Activities planned are snowshoeing, fat tire biking and winter survival techniques.
Other area weekend events include the Parade of Lights on Back Lake in Pittsburg and the Umbagog Snowmobile Association’s Annual Steak Feed in Errol, both of which are on Saturday, March 7.
The best way to explore winter in the North Country is by checking out the trails firsthand this winter. They are a must when visiting and riders can get geared up at Bear Rock Adventures and Lopstick.
For those looking to stay warm this winter check out community heritage, visual and performing arts at the Tillotson Center in Colebrook. The historic theatre known for an impressive art gallery, a 171-seat theatre and Historical Society annex started as a mere horse stable. Enjoy a performance by pianist Ben Cosgrove performing on the 1928 Steinway Parlor Concert piano, which is on loan to the center. Take some time to soak in the culture at the Great North Woods Center for the Arts. The historic venue is home to both local and regional talents.
Wrap up any day in the North Country with a delicious meal at one of the region’s amazing restaurants.
