AG Withholds Name of Officer Involved in Shooting, Ossipee Man Recovering

Concord, NH – Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald, New Hampshire State Police Colonel Christopher J. Wagner and Ossipee Police Chief Joseph Duchesne announce additional information regarding an officer-involved shooting incident that took place in Ossipee, New Hampshire on Thursday, November 7, 2019.

At approximately 2:45 p.m. on Thursday, November 7, 2019, Ossipee Police Officers responded to a residence on Oakwood Drive in Ossipee to serve John Swanson (age 53) with several legal documents and to arrest Mr. Swanson. 

Following the initial response, Mr. Swanson refused to come out of his home.  Additional New Hampshire State Police Officers were called to assist with the unfolding situation. At approximately 7:56 p.m. Mr. Swanson was shot during a confrontation with the police.  He sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.

No officers or other private citizens were physically injured during the incident.  There is no threat to the public.  Pursuant to protocol, the name(s) of the officer(s) involved in the incident is being withheld pending the conclusion of formal interview(s).

No additional information is expected to be released until the conclusion of the formal interview(s).
