AG Releases Few Details on Homicides in Hampton, Laconia; No Arrests

Editor’s note: Attorney General’s Office didn’t immediately respond to questions about any possible relationship between the homicide in Laconia on Friday and another in Hampton on Saturday or whether there are suspects at large who could be dangerous. The office didn’t include the cause of death for Juan Astacio in Hampton or when he died in today’s release. The following includes the news releases issued by Attorney General Gordon MacDonald on Monday and two released on Saturday.

AG news release April 22 at 3:02 p.m.

Concord, NH – Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald, New Hampshire State Police Colonel Christopher J. Wagner, and Hampton Police Chief Richard E. Sawyer announce further information regarding the death investigation that commenced in Hampton, New Hampshire on April 20, 2019. 

On April 20, 2019, Hampton police officers responded to a 911 call for an incident at an apartment in Hampton.  Once there, they discovered a resident of that apartment, Juan Astacio (age 34), unconscious with obvious injuries.  Mr. Astacio was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead. 

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy on Mr. Astacio on Monday, April 22, 2019.  The manner of his death is homicide.  The cause of his death is being withheld pending further investigation.   

The investigation is ongoing.  Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the New Hampshire State Police at (603) 223-4381.

7:52 p.m. April 20 AG news release: Concord, NH — Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald, New Hampshire State Police Colonel Christopher J. Wagner, and Hampton Police Chief Richard E. Sawyer announce that officials are responding to a suspicious death in Hampton, New Hampshire.

Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

6:02 p.m. April 20 AG news release: Concord, NH — Attorney General Gordon J. MacDonald, New Hampshire State Police Colonel Christopher J. Wagner, and Laconia Police Chief Matthew Canfield announce that an autopsy was conducted on Wilfred Guzman, Sr. (age 57), who was discovered deceased inside his residence in Laconia, New Hampshire on April 19, 2019.

Dr. Christine James of the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has determined that the cause of Mr. Guzman’s death was blunt and sharp force injury to the head, and the manner of death was homicide.

The investigation into the circumstances of Mr. Guzman’s death remains active and ongoing.  Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Sergeant Matthew Amatucci of the New Hampshire State Police at (603) 223-4381.
