MONICA READS, By Monica Drahonovsky

WONDER By J. Palacio, a review

Readers listen up.  I have a confession to make to you all.  I BOUGHT a book.  I did not go to the library, but found this book on a shelf in the children’s book section of my local department store and I BOUGHT it.

I looked at it, read a page and put it back on the shelf and then picked it up again at least three or four times and finally took it to the check-out line.  Oh yes, I really did this.

I know that in Wisconsin, a company called S. C. Johnson in Racine, bought the rights to show the movie version in all of the schools in Racine.  They purchased time from a theater and bused in every kid in town for a whole week so every child could see it for free.

Why is this children’s book such a hit?  Kindness is the reason.  Kindness is the hope.  Kindness and strength are the spine of this mesmerizing book.  I finished it in a day.  I will be giving it to my grandchildren and then have them donate it to friends, family and other students at their school.

The movie was a hit and successful.  The book is unforgettable and worthy of being purchased by you to pass around to everyone you know.  The characters in the book are memorable and inspiring. Every character delivers a blockbuster sentiment about how a very courageous young boy handles a life-altering disfigurement.

You need to read and remember this book.  You will feel so good when you read it.

“Everyone in the world should get a standing ovation at least once in their life because we all over-cometh the world.” A precept by Auggie Pullman.
