Renowned NH chef Jayson McCarter hikes Mount Major with several dozen chefs. Will be featured tonight on Windows to the Wild.

Do you know where your next meal is coming from? One out of every 10 New Hampshire residents is food insecure and doesn’t know where their next meal will come from. Windows to the Wild host Willem Lange joins 25 chefs on a hike to the summit of Mount Major to raise awareness of hunger in the Granite State.

New Hampshire Food Bank Executive Director Eileen Groll Liponis and chef Jayson McCarter recruited the chefs to participate in the Chefs on the Rise program as a way to encourage NH chefs to help reduce food insecurity in their communities.

“We serve about 12 million meals from our 435 partner agencies each year to families in need,” says Liponis.
NH Food Bank Chef instructor Jayson McCarter’s commitment to his community goes beyond his work with Chefs on the Rise; he also leads the Recipe for Success program at the New Hampshire Food Bank. The program teaches culinary arts to under-employed people and helps them find jobs in local restaurants.

The Mount Major hike, sponsored by Pete & Gerry’s Eggs, challenged the chefs to create egg-based dishes that will be offered to patrons of their restaurants. The proceeds of the sale of these mountaintop dishes will go to the New Hampshire Food Bank.
