CONCORD – InDepthNH.org’s reporter and columnist Garry Rayno will discuss what led to the stunning defeat Thursday of Northern Pass’ application to build a 192-mile high-voltage powerline in New Hampshire on NHPR’s The Exchange on Friday at 9 a.m.

Rayno was a daily fixture at the Northern Pass adjudicative and deliberative hearings in Concord that began last April. He and Nancy West, founder of the nonprofit online news outlet InDepthNH.org, provided New Hampshire readers comprehensive coverage of the largest proposed utility project since the Seabrook nuclear plant hearings four decades ago. Check out InDepthNH.org’s coverage here.

Other guests Friday on The Exchange include: Annie Ropeik, NHPR’s Energy and Environment reporter;  Dave Solomon, State House reporter for the New Hampshire Union Leader; and Dean Spiliotes, a civic scholar in the School of Arts and Sciences at SNHU and author of the website NH Political Capital.

Rayno also writes Distant Dome, a column about the goings-on at the NH State House, for InDepthNH.org and Manchester Ink Link.

Over the years, Rayno has closely covered the NH State House for the New Hampshire Union Leader and Foster’s Daily Democrat. His coverage spanned the news spectrum, from local planning, school and select boards, to national issues such as the electric industry deregulation and Presidential primaries.

He is former editor of The Hillsboro Messenger and Assistant Editor of The Argus-Champion.

The program will be rebroadcast at 7 p.m. Friday.
