DIXVILLE – Balsams Resort owner Dan Dagesse sold his share of the closed resort in Dixville Notch to developer Les Otten, a spokesman for Otten confirmed Friday.

In 2011 Dagesse and another North Country businessman, Dan Hebert, bought the Balsams from the Tillotson Corp. for $2.3 million.

Hebert owns a construction company based in Colebrook and Dagesse owns a string of automobile dealerships on the East Coast.

Neither Dagesse nor Otten was available for comment.

Otten has been working on the project for three years, but the resort belonged to Dagesse and Hebert.

“As the Balsams redevelopment prepares to enter this next phase, a mutual agreement was made whereby Otten has purchased Dagesse’s interests in order to retain greater control over the assets moving forward,” Otten spokesman Scott Tranchemontagne wrote in an email.

Tranchemontagne declined to provide the purchase price.

It also wasn’t clear what percentage of the Balsams Dagesse owned.

Otten, a nationally known developer of ski resorts, recently told the Coos County Commissioners that he is “fairly encouraged” that the $143 million project is on the path to success. However, he’s still working on financing, including a state guarantee on a $28 million loan.
