Attorney General Joseph A. Foster announced that New Hampshire has joined with other states and the federal government to settle allegations that Emeritus Senior Living failed to return overpayments it received from state Medicaid programs.
Emeritus, a Washington based company that owns and operates Brookdale Spruce Wood, a senior living and residential care facility in Durham, New Hampshire, will pay New Hampshire $2,466.45 in restitution and other recovery.
Emeritus will pay a total of $979,000 to 18 states and the federal government to resolve civil allegations that the company unlawfully failed to return Medicaid overpayments between May 2008 and May 2014.
The investigation resulted from an online hotline report from a former employee of Emeritus alleging that Emeritus systematically “wrote-off’ credit balances as a result of limitations in the facility accounting software. A team from the National Association of Medicaid Fraud Control Units conducted the settlement negotiations on behalf of the states.
